What is a DV camcorder?

A DV camcorder is a camcorder that records audio and video in the digital video format. DV camcorders make use of the same basic technology as analogue camcorders in order to capture images. A DVD camcorder records onto DVD discs, either a DVD-R or a DVD-RW disc. DVD camcorders offer convenience and simplicity because you can remove the disc from the camera and put it directly into your DVD player to watch.

Hard disk drive camcorders, referred to as HDD for short, record video onto an internal hard drive. By using compression, you are able to store an enormous amount of footage on the camcorder’s hard drive. The video stored on the hard drive can be downloaded to your computer, and you can then burn it onto a DVD to watch.
