How do I get a MiniDV tape out of a dead camcorder?

I've got a Canon Elura60 camcorder. It's dead. No sign of life. When you open the tape compartment, you could smell electronics burning. I'm not sure if it's worth getting fixed or not. Anyway, I want to get the tape out. I don't see any sort of manual release. Doen anybody know how to get the tape out without having to unscrew anything or breaking the camera?
