How to put a mini dv tape video on to a computer?

I bought a panasonic pv-dv402 mini dv camcorder. i want to put videos on to my computer but it wont let me. do i need the firewire even if i have a usb, the camcorder has both slots. i bought it used with no driver if i do need to download a driver where can i find it.
