Now usually I review digital cameras and DSLR cameras, however I saw the Flip UltraHD camcorder and I had to have it. I know there are tons of people out there looking for a review of this camcorder so I’m going to give you one right now.

The reason why I bought the flip UltraHD is that from everything I had read I came to the conclusion that it would be easy to use and would work right away, and true to form it did. As soon as I had set it up and knocked it on it was ready for action, there was no lag it simply worked straight away which I thought was a nice touch.

Unlike conventional camcorders you no longer need to worry about tapes because the Flip has a built in 8 GB memory which will let you record for around 2 hours of footage, the footage of course is in high definition. Once you have finished recording you can then connect the Flip UltraHD to your computer via it’s built in USB, I found this feature very convenient because I always lose the additional wires that come with items like this. Including my iPod charger, but that’s another story.

With the Flip UltraHD you are provided with normal AA batteries however this is pretty pointless because the actual camera has rechargeable batteries built in which recharge every time you connect the flip to your computer. Having something for free on the other hand is always welcomed and I used these batteries for my television remote control so I’m not complaining.

Another useful feature of the Flip UltraHD is that it has a mini-HDMI slot built into it, what this means is that you can easily connect your camcorder to your television and watch High Definition videos straight from the camera, however you will need to purchase this lead separately like I did because one isn’t supplied.

The Flip records at 720p which is one step from full HD (1080p) however having said that you won’t believe the quality that this little gem records.

A great feature of this product is that it only weighs 11 ounces. This may not be a big deal to you but having something so light means that you can carry it around with you constantly without it getting in the way. I remember when I used to have an older camcorder the size of my two fists combined, it was a nightmare to carry around, however the Flip UltraHD fits into my pocket nicely and I can pull it out and start recording at any time without too much bother.

The flip has a digital zoom of up to 2 times, this isn’t great and I would have loved it if it could have zoomed more, but it seems this is the standard zoom range for handheld camcorders of this sort.

To really push this little camcorder I decided to test it in a variety of conditions, one of these conditions was in low light. I previously have owned many camcorders and most of them struggled in low light conditions, I’m happy to report thought that this is one of the better camcorders for low light filming and it held up extremely well to the bad lighting conditions, it wasn’t perfect by any means but it did work really well.

Conclusion

On conclusion I’m very happy with the choice I made when I chose the Flip Ultra HD camcorder, the video captured was clean, crisp and the sound was excellent. I was also impressed with the software that came with the product because it allowed me to upload my videos to Facebook or YouTube at the click of the button. The 2 inch screen may put some people off because it isn’t massive, however if you aren’t legally declared blind then you will be able to see what is going on easily on the back LCD screen.

For something so small the Flick UltraHD packs a lot of technology into a small space which results in an excellent camcorder, but don’t take just my word for it, have a look below what some of the world’s leading industry specialist have had to say:
