Today’s camcorders are far more advanced than previous generations of camera. Over time they have improved to become the types of electronic handheld devices that we see today. Today’s digital camcorders record in HD format, which is on its way to becoming the gold standard. HD camcorders come with many features that were not previously available.

The first generation of digital video camcorder were far different from the HD camcorder devices we see today. The high def camcorder records massive amounts of digital data per second in comparison to preceding generations of camcorders. They therefore require a storage medium that can handle large amounts of data, such as removable optical disks, removable or built in flash memory, and internal hard drives.

As the technology and the market for camcorders advance, there will be more options available to the public in regard to the types of high definition camcorders that they can select from, as we are already seeing. Some of these new options include cosmetic features. For example, many retailers allow you to custom create the outside of your own camcorder by allowing you to have images of yourself printed on the outside of your camera. The market also currently offers other features to the main stream, such as a waterproof video recorder, which is just another way manufactures are revolutionizing the way we record and view video.

When camcorders first became available to the public, they were large and sometimes required more than one person to operate it. Today, you can get an HD camcorder that can fit in your pocket. Also, many of the options that are available today were not available then. The high definition camcorder is just another sign of progress in an evolving industry.
